The New Teacher Induction program is designed to support new teachers in their first years with us.

The Induction program will include several different ways we provide support, including site-based mentors and monthly opportunities to meet with and learn from others.

New Teacher Orientation

The induction program begins with New Teacher Orientation

Several sessions throughout this week will be held virtually - however, all newly hired educators will report to their school or office site, where school-based support sessions will be held. In addition, there will be scheduled sessions where new hires will join a video conference with system leaders for virtual induction sessions. Below is an overview of the week:

Wednesday, August 19

New Teachers report to their school by 8:30 AM

  • 8:30 Arrive/Connect/Principal Time
    • See your classroom, get your laptop, login, etc
    • Meet your mentor (either socially distanced on-site or via Zoom/Google Meet)
  • 10:00 AM: System-Wide Presentation (conducted via video conference)
    • Superintendent’s presentation
    • Board Chair welcome
    • Overview of SMCPS
    • Overview of Induction Program
  • 12:45 Afternoon Sessions
    • EASMC Introduction
    • Technology Overview: eSchool, Google, Schoology, Performance Matters
    • HR Modules - Benefits, Tuition Reimbursement, SmartFind Express

Thursday, August 20

  • 8:30-9 Arrive, Connect, Mentor/Principal Time
  • 9-11 Schoology Introduction (if you have not already completed this online course)
  • Supervisor Meetings/PD (a schedule will be provided)

Friday, August 21

  • 8:30-9 Arrive, Connect, Mentor/Principal Time
  • 9:00 Morning Session: Know Your Contract
  • 10:00 Classroom Preparation/Digital Classroom Preparation (on your own or with your mentor)
