Facility Utilization and School Boundary Study

Community Survey #2 – Now Open

SMCPS is continuing to gather community input on the Facility Utilization and School Boundary Study through Community Survey #2.

  • The survey asks about your level of support for various options being considered by grade level.
  • You may respond for one or more grade spans, depending on your interest or connection.
  • A few questions about you and your relationship to SMCPS help ensure we hear from a broad cross-section of our school communities.
  • The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete.
  • Survey #2 will close on December 5, 2025.

If you would like to review the options again before beginning the survey, please use the maps and presentation materials posted on our options page.

St. Mary’s County Public Schools Redistricting & Facility Planning

St. Mary’s County Public Schools is launching a comprehensive Facility Utilization and School Boundary Study initiative to guide how our schools serve students and families in the years ahead.

With a commitment to student success, equity, and responsible stewardship of public resources, SMCPS is working with professional planning partners to review current school boundaries, assess our facilities, and engage the community in thoughtful, transparent dialogue.

As our county continues to grow and change—from rural neighborhoods to town centers—this process is an opportunity to address key challenges like overcrowding, aging buildings, and enrollment shifts. Most importantly, it’s a chance to ensure that every student learns in a safe, well-resourced, and inspiring environment.

This work will affect all of us—students, families, educators, and community members. Your input matters. Whether you join a meeting, offer feedback, or follow along with updates, your voice will help shape the future of education in St. Mary’s County.

News & Events

At St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS), we believe in planning with the community—not just for it. That’s why, as part of the Facilities Utilization and School Boundary Study (FUSBS), we will be hosting two Community Forums across the district. These forums will be open to everyone—students, families, teachers, and neighbors—because shaping the future of our schools starts with listening to those who know them best.

At these in-person forums, we invite the public to learn about the FUSBS process as well as contribute to guiding principles, sharing ideas, concerns, and priorities about school facilities and learning environments.

Every piece of feedback gathered at these forums will be documented and shared with planning teams and stakeholder groups. The thoughts and comments shared will directly inform options that will be created and brought back to public hearing in January 2026.

This isn’t a one-time conversation. It’s an ongoing dialogue, and every voice matters.
