Student Registration Information
Parents wishing to register their child/children in St. Mary’s County Public Schools need to register at the school which is located in the attendance area where the student resides.
To find the assigned school, go to the SMCPS website, select Offices, select Capitol Planning, select Find a school by your address.
In order for your child to enter a Maryland public school for the first time, the following health-related items are required.
- A physical examination by a physician or certified nurse practitioner must be completed within nine months prior to entering the public school system or within six months after entering the system.
- Evidence of complete Maryland required immunizations for all students in preschool through the twelfth grade.
- Evidence of Maryland required blood testing for lead screening is required for all students born on or after 1/1/2015 when first entering pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade.
Immunization & Medical forms are located in our forms database. If you have any questions related to health requirements, you may contact the school nurse at your child’s school.
Kindergarten is a full-day program available in each elementary school. Kindergarten curriculum information is available via our Department of Curriculum & Instruction by selecting Mathematics–Elementary or English Language Arts–Elementary.
Important: Under Maryland law, children must be five years old on or before September 1, 2023, to enter kindergarten in the 2023-2024 school year. Kindergarten Registration will open May 9, 2023. Please contact the school to make an appointment to register your student.
