Foreign Exchange Student Program
High school student exchange programs benefit participating students and enrich the communities and schools that host them. The primary purpose of an exchange student program is to allow students to gain an immersive cultural and educational experience in a different country, fostering global understanding and personal growth. The presence of international students in U.S high schools enriches the educational experience for all students. International student exchange allows incoming students to share their diverse cultural backgrounds giving their fellow students a more international perspective.
St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) admits exchange students for two full academic semesters. The Department of Student Services monitors compliance with procedures and regulations for the admission of exchange students. Applications for the admission of exchange students are accepted between April 15 and June 15 for the start of the upcoming academic school year.
The Application for Admission of Exchange Students in SMCPS, is the official document used for admission. Students will be considered for acceptance and enrollment on a space available basis.
