The Learning Adjustment (LAP)
The Learning Adjustment Program (LAP) classroom is designed for students who are experiencing intensive behavioral and emotional challenges and who have demonstrated the need for a more structured therapeutic learning environment. The LAP classroom is staffed by a special education teacher and paraeducator(s). A LAP counselor/social worker provides students services based on the recommendations of the IEP team.
Students in the LAP classroom follow a consistent point and level system that provides social and emotional learning tools and strategies needed for academic success. Additional individual and small group social skills training enable students to generalize new skills in a safe learning environment.
Students are placed in LAP through the County Individualized Education Program (CIEP) committee process. In order for a student to be considered for the Learning Adjustment Program, the school team must complete the Special Education Case Review (SECR) process. This process will guide the team through a comprehensive look at the student’s educational program. The process will be facilitated through the special education supervisor assigned to the Learning Adjustment Program.
