Kindergarten & Early K Registration

Kindergarten Registration will open May 5, 2025.  

Kindergarten is a full-day program available in each elementary school. Kindergarten curriculum information is available at http://www.smcps.org/dci by selecting Mathematics–Elementary or English Language Arts–Elementary. 

Important: Under Maryland law, children must be five years old on or before September 1, 2025, to enter kindergarten in the 2025-2026 school year.

Kindergarten Early Entrance

Early entrance to Kindergarten is considered acceleration.  It is not a waiver of the age of entry regulations.  Early entrance will be considered for high performing children who are five years old by November 1, 2025 and who demonstrate capabilities in reading and mathematics warranting early admission.  Applications will be accepted May 5, 2025 through July 18, 2025, with testing occurring between June 16, 2025 and July 25, 2025.  For families moving into St. Mary’s County after July 18, 2025 from another area, applications will be accepted until August 8, 2025.
