St. Mary’s County Public Schools Redistricting & Facility Planning

St. Mary’s County Public Schools launched a comprehensive Facility Utilization and School Boundary Study initiative to guide how our schools served students and families, a process that was successfully resolved in March of 2026.

With a commitment to student success, equity, and responsible stewardship of public resources, SMCPS worked with professional planning partners to review school boundaries, assess facilities, and engage the community in thoughtful, transparent dialogue.

As the county continued to grow and change—from rural neighborhoods to town centers—this process provided an opportunity to address key challenges like overcrowding, aging buildings, and enrollment shifts. Most importantly, it was a chance to ensure that every student learned in a safe, well-resourced, and inspiring environment.

This work affected all of us—students, families, educators, and community members. Your input mattered. Whether you joined a meeting, offered feedback, or followed along with updates, your voice helped shape the future of education in St. Mary’s County.
