On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, St. Mary’s County Public Schools hosted a live Town Hall Session on the Blueprint for Maryland's Future. The evening event focused on Pillar 1, and included an overview on early childhood education along with a panel discussion. Panelists answered questions from the audience in the areas of Pre-K eligibility and curriculum, private providers, and the next steps.
The Town Hall overview and panel discussion was streamed live on www.smcps.org/streaming and was followed by in-person small group discussions. The panel was facilitated by Dr. Kelly Hall, the Chief of Equity, Engagement and Early Access for SMCPS. The panelists included Mrs. Charlottis Woodley, Director of Parent and Family Engagement, Mrs. Lynne Trehern, Early Childhood IRT, and Mrs. Wendy Binkley, the Coordinator of Judy Center Early Learning Hubs. Representatives from SMCPS, the SMCPS Board of Education, private providers, and other local stakeholders were also in attendance. A recording of the event can be found on the SMCPS YouTube channel.
The Pillar 1 Town Hall is the first of four scheduled live events addressing elements of the Blueprint. Each of the Town Hall events will be held at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center in Leonardtown, Maryland. The next SMCPS Town Hall for the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future will focus on Pillar 4: Resources for Student Success and it will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 6:00 pm.
