LEONARDTOWN, MD – This morning, Monday, March 27, 2023, at approximately 6:48 a.m., an exhaust fan motor malfunctioned, causing smoke to permeate the front entrance/foyer area of the school. The fire department cleared the building and verified that no fire was present. Out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of staff and students, and to clear the building of smoke and odor, the building was closed for the day. The St. Mary’s County Public Schools Maintenance staff is assessing the situation and will make repairs in order to reopen schools on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
