Educational Facilities Master Plan
Capital Planning
In June 2024, the Board of Education of St. Mary’s County approved the FY2025 Educational Facilities Master Plan (EFMP)—a comprehensive document that guides school facility planning, capital improvements, and long-term infrastructure decisions for St. Mary’s County Public Schools.
This annual plan is submitted each year by July 1 in accordance with state regulations and outlines both current facility needs and future projections based on enrollment trends, building conditions, and instructional goals. The FY2025 plan highlights critical system-wide renovations, capacity studies, and includes the upcoming Chopticon High School renovation, which will be the largest capital project in SMCPS history.
SMCPS remains committed to responsible stewardship of resources, strong partnership with the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County, and transparency in facility planning. This plan represents our best efforts to meet the needs of students today—while preparing for the challenges of tomorrow.
