St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) applies for and utilizes local, state, and federal grant funding to enhance school system instruction. The main source of funding is received from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE); other sources including the St. Mary’s County Health Department, Local Management Board (LMB) and federal funding. This funding is categorized as restricted or grant funding.
The Restricted Funding Office is responsible for the preparation, monitoring, and reporting of the financial requirements for these funding sources. Support is provided to the grant managers to assist with expending these resources for enhanced instruction in our schools.
The Staff Accountants are also responsible for:
- The reporting and tracking of school system inventory and fixed assets
- Reconciliation of Central Office managed bank accounts
- Annual School Activity Funds Reviews
- Accounting, budgeting, reporting, and auditing of restricted funds
