The Gateway to Independence

The Gateway to Independence Program is a transition program for students with disabilities, ages 18 – 21, who will graduate from high school with a Certificate of Program Completion and have post secondary goals to live, travel, and work independently in the community. 

The program seeks to provide these students with the academic, vocational and social skills necessary for a successful transition to postsecondary life. 

In order to be eligible, students must:

  • Be on track to receive a Maryland Certificate of Program Completion;
  • Attend four years of high school beyond grade 8;  and
  • Complete an application for the Gateway to Independence program.
