World Languages

The fundamental purpose of world language instruction is to equip students with the skills necessary to communicate in a new language in a culturally appropriate way. The linguistic and cultural insights that come from world language study are essential for citizens in the global community and marketplace. Interdisciplinary learning connections are created when students are learning another language. In addition, students learn to appreciate other cultures' world views, unique ways of living and behavior patterns.  St. Mary's County Public Schools offers instruction for the following languages: Chinese, French, German, Italian, Latin, and Spanish.
