Overview
The Maryland Standards reflect SHAPE America’s National Standards with regards to what students should know and do. The abilities of a physically literate individual include demonstrating competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns; applying knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance; demonstrating the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness; exhibiting responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others; and recognizing the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.
Please note: It is anticipated that Maryland will adopt SHAPE America's National Standards for Physical Education in the near future, at which time all curricula will be aligned to the new language. In the meantime links to both the Maryland and National Standards are provided on the left of this screen.
