Global and International Studies Grade 9 Application Criteria
APPLICATION: The Global and International Studies team welcomes all interested students to apply. Applicants shall complete the online application with a parent/guardian. Applications will require a brief essay describing the applicant's interest in global policies and the humanities, and a recommendation from the applicant's English or Social Studies teacher.
CRITERIA: Applicants are awarded an overall matrix score based upon the following criteria*:
- ELA 08 Mid-Year Assessment**
- ELA 08 Quarter 1 Performance-Based Assessment**
- Social Studies 08 Quater 2 Performance-Based Simulated Research Task: Evidence-Based Argument Set (EBAS) SR
- Social Studies 08 Quater 2 Performance-Based Simulated Research Task: Evidence-Based Argument Set (EBAS) ECQ
- Grade 07 PARCC English Language Arts
- Social Studies Grades Quarters 1, 2, 3
- English Language Arts** Grades Quarters 1, 2, 3
In the event of a tie matrix score, the application review team will consider the applicant's essay, overall GPA, enrollment in accelerated coursework, other assessment data, teacher and parent recommendations, extra-curricular interests, attendance, and career interests.
*Each of these data points is available on HAC. Click on GRADES, then on the TEST SCORES tab. Additional factors may also be considered to include attendance, other course grades and local assessments, placement in Accelerated coursework, teacher recommendations, involvement in extra-curricular and volunteer activities, and/or student-written essay.
**Please note that Accelerated English Language Arts Grade 8 is the preferred course for admission into the Global and International Studies Academy.
Applicants will be notified regarding acceptance on or before May 22, 2020.
