English Language Arts - Secondary

Working from the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards (MCCRS) in the areas of reading, writing, language, and speaking and listening, ELA teachers and teams choose specific content from approved instructional materials through which they teach the grade-level standards.  In all courses, the content will consist primarily of short stories, poems, and informational texts in the course anthology, which is supplemented by longer novels or literary nonfiction and media that are grade-level appropriate.

The Secondary ELA Curriculum Scope and Sequence Document outlines all units in both the on-grade level and ACC/Pre-AP courses in grades 6-12.

The content of AP Language and Literature courses is selected by individual teachers and vetted and approved by the College Board. Questions about the course materials can be directed to Colleen Gill.

Please refer to the approved reading lists and independent reading suggestions for more information about our curriculum materials and suggestions for summer reading.
