Deputy Superintendent of Fiscal and Supporting Services
Tammy McCourt, CPA has been with St. Mary’s County Public Schools since 2014. She currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent, overseeing the Divisions of Fiscal and Supporting Services, and serves as the school district’s Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining St. Mary’s County Public Schools, she served both Calvert County Public Schools and Calvert County Government for a total of just under three decades of experience in governmental accounting and budgeting. Fully supporting the education of our next generation, she spent several years simultaneously serving as an adjunct instructor of Accounting and Personal Finance at the College of Southern Maryland.
Ms. McCourt serves as a Maryland Association of Board of Education Other Post Employment Benefit Trustee and the Maryland Association of Board of Education Group Insurance Pool Trustee. Due to her extensive financial expertise in the education sector and interest in fiscal laws impacting school funding, she is also highly engaged in a variety of ad hoc committees with the Maryland State Department of Education, the Accountability Implementation Board, and the Public School Superintendents’ Association of Maryland CFO group. She regularly monitors proposed legislative changes to gauge the fiscal impact, both short and long term, on school districts across the state. To stay abreast of Federal, State, and Local economic matters that may indirectly impact the school district's finances, she is active with the Maryland Government Officers Association.
Ms. McCourt holds an MBA from the University of Maryland at College Park. She has been a Maryland Certified Public Accountant since 2004. She and her husband, Rick, have three sons – Richie, Jacob, and Thomas. Serving the public has become the family tradition – Rick is retired from local law enforcement, Richie is employed in local law enforcement and is a standardized field sobriety test instructor and field training officer, and Jacob supports the Department of Defense in cyber and system analytics. Her youngest son, Thomas, is currently a college sophomore.
