Chief Academic Officer

Katie Kortokrax has been with St. Mary’s County Public Schools since she began as an 8th grade English teacher at Esperanza Middle School in 2009. She then became an instructional resource teacher at EMS before heading to Leonardtown High School as an assistant principal in 2017. She spent the next four years with the Class of 2021, and after they crossed the stage at graduation, Katie sought an elementary experience and became the Academic Dean at George Washington Carver Elementary School. The following year, she was promoted to principal at Captain Walter Francis Duke Elementary School where she spent 3 years soaring with the Aviators. In 2025, she was appointed as Chief Academic Officer of St. Mary’s County Public Schools.
Katie Kortokrax holds a Master's degree in Human Resources from Towson University and a Bachelor's degree in English Education from Bowling Green State University. She is certified to teach English 7-12 and holds Administrator I and Administrator II credentials.
