Application Process
2012-2013 APPLICATIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE AT THE LINKS LISTED BELOW UNDER 2012-2013 STEM APPLICATIONS.
Students wishing to enroll in the program will complete an application packet and submit it to SMCPS. Each application will be reviewed by an admissions team comprised of educators, administrators, and foundation members who will, in turn, make recommendations to the academy for accepting members into the program.
At the secondary level, applicants will be interviewed by the admissions team. Candidates will be evaluated based on their past academic performance, dedication to advanced learning, and their desire to pursue STEM careers.
Considerations for Applicants may include:
- Maryland School Assessment (MSA) scores
- Percentile Ranking on MSA
- OLSAT SAI Score
- High School Assessments
- County Benchmark Assessments
- Report Card Grades/Grade Point Average
- Participation in competitions and fairs
- Application Essay - Parent and Student
- Successful Interview (if necessary)

Please note: This form is only needed for students who are applying and are not currently enrolled in STEM 8
Application Deadlines:
Elementary and Middle School (new and returning students)- Friday, March 16, 2012
High School - Friday, March 30, 2012
Applicants will be notified of acceptance status by April 30, 2012. (If there are no openings in the grade level in which the student applies, applicants will be placed on a waiting list if they are eligible to be in the STEM Academy.) All students must reapply to remain on the waiting list for the next school year.
All applications are to be postmarked or delivered by:
