Welcome to the Eagle's Nest!
George Washington Carver Elementary School is located in
Lexington Park, Maryland and serves approximately 485
students from Pre-kindergarten to Fifth Grade. Students
three years of age are eligible to enroll in the Judith
Hoyer Center also. G.W. Carver is designated as a Title I
school. This distinction is based on the percentage of Free
and Reduced Meals (59%) received by our students. As a
result, G.W. Carver is the beneficiary of both state and
federal money to help supplement the county funded budget.
Students at George Washington Carver will to be engaged in
meaningful activities at all times. Increased time reading
materials at their instructional level will aid in
comprehension of text.
On a daily basis, students receive instruction from highly
qualified teachers. The staff at G.W. Carver Elementary use
assessment data to plan instruction that will meet the
needs of our students. Support personnel are available to
assist with special education, English as a Second
language, Speech and Language, and instructional concerns.
Various programs are in place to support our students with
instruction.
In addition to the programs in place during the school day,
an after school program that provides support for students
is in place. This program is run in conjunction with the
Boys and Girls Club of Southern Maryland. The time is
devoted to one hour for academics and a second hour of
enrichment.
Parents are welcome to visit the school at any time.
Monthly programs will be advertised throughout the year.
Volunteers for classroom assistance as well as special
projects are always needed. Joining the PTA and attending
meetings such as the School Improvement Team is a good way
to stay involved. Each child will take home a folder,
deemed a Tuesday Folder, with information that parents will
find important and informative.
This is "A" Week
The last school day for students will be Friday, June
6th!
