ADMINISTRATIVE APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

LEONARDTOWN , MD – Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michael J. Martirano, announces the administrative appointment made by the Board of Education at its meeting of August 27, 2008.

The Board appointed Ms. Sharon Thorstensen to the position of supervisor of instruction for early childhood/elementary education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.  Since joining the school system in 1991, Ms. Thorstensen has served as a fifth grade teacher at White Marsh Elementary, a first/second grade teacher at Green Holly Elementary, an instructional resource teacher at Green Holly Elementary, and director of the school system’s Eleven Month School Year program.  Her experience also includes serving as a teacher with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools, the pre-kindergarten program at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, and Messiah Lutheran School in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Ms. Thorstensen has served on many local and state committees that focus on early childhood and curriculum development, and has served as a presenter at local and state conferences.  She earned a Master of Arts degree in education and a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Austin Peay State University .

This appointment is effective September 2, 2008.
