ADMINISTRATIVE APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED
LEONARDTOWN, MD
– Superintendent of
Schools, Dr.
Michael J.
Martirano
, announces the administrative appointments made by the Board of Education at its
meeting of June 13, 2008.
The Board appointed Ms. Wendy Zimmerman to the position of academic dean of the
newly created
Fairlead Academy
. Ms. Zimmerman currently serves as an assistant principal at
Great Mills
High School
. Her experience also includes serving
as a mentor teacher, lead teacher
for the Small Learning Communities program, and
a high school biology teacher. Ms. Zimmerman earned a Master of Science degree in
human resources development with an emphasis in administration and supervision from
Towson
University
, and a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education biology from
Millersville
University
in
Millersville, PA.
The Board also appointed Ms. Contina Quick to the position of assistant principal
at
Great Mills
High School
where she currently serves as a reading teacher.
Ms. Quick, who joined the school system in 1995 as a second grade teacher
at
George
Washington Carver Elementary
School
, has also served as a first and third grade teacher and a team lead at Greenview
Knolls Elementary. Ms. Quick holds
a Master of Science degree in reading from
Towson
University
, a Master of Science degree in curriculum and instruction from
McDaniel
College
, and a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from
Francis
Marion
University
in
Florence, SC.
Mr. Sean Twigg was named assistant principal at
Spring Ridge Middle
School
. Mr. Twigg currently serves as a social
studies teacher/department chair at
Great
Mills
High
School
where he has taught Advanced Placement history,
U.S.
government and politics, global diplomacy, world history, and
U.S.
history since joining the school system in 1994.
He earned a Master of Arts degree in history from
George Mason
University
, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Maryland Baltimore
County.
The Board appointed Mr. Joel Beidleman to the position of assistant principal at
Esperanza Middle
School
. Mr. Beidleman joins the school system
from
Ellen
Glasgow
Middle School
in
Alexandria, VA
, where he currently serves as a mathematics supervisor.
His experience also includes serving as a technology coordinator/mathematics
supervisor and a math instructor/department chair at
Benjamin
Stoddert
Middle School
in the
Prince
George
’s
County Public
School
system. Mr. Beidleman holds a Master of Science degree in information systems/computer
science from
Strayer
University
, and a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from
Virginia Union University
.
In addition to these appointments, Mr. Kevin McCarthy, current assistant principal
at Chopticon High School, will transfer to the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology
Center in the same capacity.
These appointments and
this transfer become effective July 1, 2008.
