Beyond High School…What’s Available for my Child?

 

            LEONARDTOWN , MD -- St. Mary’s County Public School ’s (SMCPS) Department of Special Education, through a grant for transitioning youth and in partnership with Wyle Laboratories, Inc., is sponsoring a transition conference luncheon on Thursday, May 21, 2009, 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Exploration III Conference Center located on Exploration Drive in Lexington Park, MD 20653 .

            This conference is for parents of middle school and high school students who receive special education services.  Parents will enjoy lunch as guest speakers present information on the funding and services that may be available for students after they transition from high school.  Guest speakers include The ARC, Attorney Joann Wood, The Center for Life Enrichment, The College of Maryland, Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), Melwood, Mental Health Authority, Parents’ Place of Maryland, Resource Coordination, Social Security, St. Mary’s Transit System, and United Cerebral Palsy.  In addition, parents of students who have made this transition will speak about their experiences.
