2008 District IV Athletic Director of the Year

Richard F. O’Donnell, CAA, athletic director at Chopticon High School , for the second year in succession, has been selected as the District IV Athletic Director of the Year.  District IV is comprised of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties.  Mr. O’Donnell has been the athletic director at Chopticon High School for 23 years.  During that time, he has been president of the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) four times; vice president four times; and the position of secretary, which he currently holds, four times.

He has assumed the responsibility for developing conference-wide schedules for all sports and is the chair of both the SMAC Boys’ Basketball and Cross Country Committees.

Mr. O’Donnell will be honored by his colleagues from across the state at the Maryland State Athletic Directors Association’s annual convention held in Ocean City, Maryland , on April 12, 2008.
