BEEF
RECALL UPDATE
LEONARDTOWN, MD
– The United States Department of Agriculture
(USDA), while conducting their investigation into the meat processed through Westland/Hallmark
Meat Company, has determined that additional products must be recalled.
St. Mary's County Public Schools has been advised that additional products
had been received in our school system.
Meatballs and beef patties were identified.
Meatballs were on today’s menu as an entrée.
The school system removed the items from the menu and a substitute was provided. All of the recalled products have been
brought back to a central location for disposal.
The school system is replacing the recalled product with items from a different
vendor who assures the school system they are not using the beef processed through
Westland/Hallmark Meat Company.
St. Mary's County Public Schools is working closely with the USDA, the Maryland
State Department of Education, and
St. Mary’s County Health Department regarding
this matter to ensure that the safety of our students and the integrity of the food
and nutrition program are not compromised.
