FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES
Family and consumer sciences education offers students an experience-based, integrated program, which addresses the demands of personal and family living. Students develop knowledge and skills from lessons in resource management, child and family development, food and nutrition, living environments, fashion trends, and use of technology at home and the workplace. A major focus of these programs is preparation for the challenges of both independent and family living.

This course offers students an exploratory opportunity in the following areas: child and family development, food and nutrition, living environments, consumerism, and textiles. Students will use a variety of unique technologies related to each content area. A special emphasis will be placed on individual career interests and explorations. This course satisfies the technology education credit required for graduation. |

This course is designed to help students understand the many challenges facing them as young adults during and after high school. Students will explore all facets of daily living, including, but not limited to; personal style, personality, careers, food and nutrition, personal health, parenting, child development, personal finances, consumerism, decision-making, family roles and relationships, multiculturalism, and self awareness. This course seeks to improve decision-making skills in all aspects of personal living. |

This course enables students to investigate the nature of food and how the human body processes and uses food to maintain good health. Food preparation and storage techniques will be presented. Students will analyze career paths in the food, nutrition, and health fields. Nutritional therapy and dietary plans will be reviewed and evaluated through laboratory experiences. |

This yearlong course provides students with basic theories and principles concerning pregnancy, prenatal development, prenatal care, childbirth, and an in-depth study of the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of the child in the family, beginning at birth and progressing to age eight. Observations will be required in addition to regular class instruction. |
