Description:

This engineering challenge is offered to students in public and nonpublic schools located in Southern Maryland.  The event is designed to promote the development of critical and creative thinking through problem solving, collaboration, and applied core subject skills with a special focus on adding ‘fun’ to the teaching-learning process.  The competition is for students in grades 1-3.  The teams must have 3-4 members.  At least 2 members of each team must be present the day of the competition.  The competition is designed to cultivate the creative and critical thinking of students.  A special wheel and axle kit will be sent to each team once a registration form is received.  The challenge is designed as a "student" activity and parents, teachers, and volunteers may participate solely as facilitators.  Please review the competition requirements presented below very carefully.

The Engineering Problem:

Design and build a fast, open topped sports car with suitable safety equipment to enable the race driver, Egbert (an uncooked medium size egg), to survive a crash on a special test track.  In addition to the safety test, the car will be tested for its ability to travel as far as possible after moving down the test track.
