STEM Academies:  Application Process

The Application Process

Students wishing to enroll in the program will complete an application packet and submit this to the SMCPS Department of Curriculum and Instruction by February 22, 2008. Each application will be reviewed by an admissions team comprised of educators, administrators, and foundation members who will, in turn, make recommendations to the academy for accepting members into the program.  

At the secondary level, applicants will be interviewed by the admissions team. Candidates will be evaluated based on their past academic performance, dedication to advanced learning, and their desire to pursue STEM careers.

Considerations for Applicants may include:

  • Maryland State Assessment (MSA) scores

  • Percentile Ranking on MSA

  • OLSAT SAI Score

  • High School Assessments

  • Report Card Grades/Grade Point Average

  • Participation in competitions and fairs

  • Application Essay

  • Successful Interview
