LEONARDTOWN, MD – St. Mary’s County Association of Student Councils held elections for the Student Member of the Board of Education of St. Mary’s County (the Board) position on February 28, 2012 at the General Assembly. Miss Shannon Demehri from Leonardtown High School was re-elected to this position for the 2012-2013 school year.

Miss Demehri is a junior at Leonardtown High School and is a longtime participant in her school's student government association. This past year she has been an active participant in articulating the students’ perspective as St. Mary’s County Public Schools transitions to the Common Core State Standards to ensure all students are college and career ready. In addition, Miss Demehri has continued to make a difference in her community through tutoring students and volunteering with various non-profit organizations.

Miss Demehri will continue to be an official member of the Board and provide an informed student viewpoint to the Board of Education. While serving as the Student Member of the Board, Miss Demehri will be sharing information with students and the general public on an array of educational concerns. This student leadership position also includes being an active participant at student-related and school-related activities.
