Loker and Dvorak win MCTM Educator Awards

LEONARDTOWN, MD - Dr. Michael J. Martirano, Superintendent of St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS), is pleased to announce that Ms. Cortney Klann Dvorak and Ms. Rebekah Loker were recognized by the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) as outstanding educators. Each year, MCTM selects one teacher from across the State of Maryland in each of the following categories: early childhood; elementary; middle school; high school; and other (non-classroom) educator. St. Mary’s County Public Schools had two winners of the five categories.
“I am so proud of these exceptional educators who work every day to make mathematics come alive for our students,” said Dr. Martirano.
Cortney Klann Dvorak was named MCTM Outstanding Early Childhood Educator of the Year. Mrs. Dvorak is an Instructional Resource Teacher at Leonardtown Elementary School, and she recently served as a second grade teacher. She has been with SMCPS since 2006.
Rebekah Loker was named MCTM Outstanding Educator of the Year in the non-classroom category. Ms. Loker is the supervisor of instruction for elementary mathematics, and she has been with SMCPS since 1991, serving as an elementary teacher and instructional resource teacher prior to her current role.
Ms. Dvorak and Ms. Loker were recognized on October 18, 2012, at the MCTM Awards Banquet in Catonsville, Maryland. The Board of Education will further recognize these individuals at the November 28, 2012, Board of Education meeting.
