St. Mary's County is rich in resources and scenic beauty.  In this area surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay, the Patuxent and Potomac rivers, nature, history and culture are inextricably linked.  While steeped in history and tradition, St. Mary's County is also rich in technology based business and economic development.  Located 65 miles southeast of Washington, DC, at the southern tip of Maryland, the county has 400 miles of shoreline and acres of unspoiled park land.  Home to historic St. Mary's City, founded in 1634, St. Mary's County still retains its old world charm and traditional industries of agriculture and the harvest of the bay.  The County's location allows for easy access to major metropolitan areas while offering residents a high quality of life and affordable lifestyles.  (For more information on St. Mary's County visit http://www.co.saint-marys.md.us/.)

St. Mary's County has a population of 105,151, with a student enrollment of approximately 17,454.  Our system employs 2,200 certificated and non-certificated staff.  The county's 26 public schools include 17 elementary schools, one Public Charter school, four middle schools, three high schools, and one career and technology center.  The system also provides a comprehensive special education program for students ages birth through 21, an alternative program, middle and high school summer school programs, and an evening high school program.
