Our Programs

ABE - Adult Basic Education

Adult Basic Education classes are offered at various sites throughout St. Mary's County. Classes meet two times per week. Classes are small and learning is individualized to meet the needs of each student. All areas of basic reading, writing, and math are covered. 

GED® - General Educational Development

GED® preparation classes are offered at various sites throughout St. Mary's County. The Classes meet two or three times per week.  All areas of the GED® test -- reading, writing, social studies, science, and math -- are taught. Upon passing the GED® test, you will be awarded a Maryland High School Diploma by the State Board of Education.

ESL - English as a Second Language

English as a Second Language classes is designed for beginning through advanced students. Morning and evening classes are available. Classes meet twice each week. Orientation for ESL is held once a month and requires no preregistration.

Family Literacy

Family Literacy programs offer parents an opportunity to increase their education and employability skills while learning to support their child's development. These programs provide integrated components to the family. Interactive literacy activities between parents and their child are combined with an age-appropriate education to prepare the child for success in school and life experiences. Parent literacy training leads to economic self-sufficiency and help towards earning a high school diploma. Training is available to assist parents in becoming their child's primary teacher and full partners in the education of their child. Family Literacy classes are held at Green Holly Elementary School on Tuedays and Thursdays from 9:00 - 11:30 a.m.

GED® Practice Testing

We offer the General Educational Development (GED®) Official Practice Test twice a month.  The Official Practice Test is half the length of the official GED®  and assess readiness to pass the official GED®  test. On the test day, all students are advised of their scores and options for test preparation and GED®  test registration.  There is a $20.00 fee for students currently not enrolled in the Adult Education Program.
